Today  Susan and I met a young lady named Laura.

Laura dropped by for a chat with her portfolio to ask for feedback and advice on her photographs and we were pleasantly surprised. Laura’s portfolio featured  landscapes and also portraits of her friends beautiful baby.

It is so nice for us to be able to share our time and knowledge with young people today, who really have a passion for taking pictures and learning photography.

We wish Laura every success with pursuing her interest in photography, and hope that we have helped her to understand a little more.

Many thanks to everyone who supported us throughout 2008. We had a great time covering many wonderful weddings, portraits and our new boudoir experience.

The end of last year was a bit of a trial for us with a sudden death in the family, leaving Susan & I to help care for a 92 year old lady, (who is still very independent, and loves playing mind games :) ), and quite a few other problems came along to test us, but lets not dwell on the past.  Thank you all for your understanding when we were not in the office to take the calls personally, and had to rely on e-mail.

We also had an admin problem for a while which meant we could not post on this site, but all has been sorted, and we look forward to keeping you informed of what is happening in the world of John Divers Photography.

Once again “Thank you” for your continued support

John & Susan

Everyone likes to hear good news, and it does not get better than hearing about  a new  birth. This is the ultimate commitment a couple make, as they are now responsible for this new little person in their lives.

Some will remember Helen & Simon, we had the privilege to photograph their wedding a few years back. Their reception was at the beautiful Hazlewood Castle. We created some wonderful memories for them then, and we are pleased to be able to continue to capture some special memories, on little Evie’s christening day.

Emley Church

Emley Church

The christening was held at the beautiful St. Michael The Archangel’s church in Emley. This church is very modern in every sense, from the complete restoration work that was carried out in 2004, to the modern outlook of the reverend Christine Bullimoore, John Marsh and all others involved in running the church. It reminded me of when I went to Sunday school when I was a little boy, a lovely memory.

Evie Rose

Evie seemed to enjoy all the fuss, even when she was being baptized by John Marsh, she only pulled a little face. Everyone enjoyed the service, as volunteers were handed sheets of paper, and were guided through different stages of paper folding and tearing, all managed to achieve the same outcome. A symbol of love.

It was soon time to head off for the reception at Bagden Hall Hotel & Golf course.

Everyone was ready for a bite to eat, and little Evie was not going to be left out, and took charge of her own bottle.

Mum, Dad, Grandparent’s, great grandparent and all godparents (Annalise, Becky & Neil) had their photographs taken with Evie, even though it was a long day she kept on smiling. What a wonderful day.

Helen & Simon, “Thank you” for once again allowing us to share this precious memory with you both, you will always be in our hearts.

This week we met up again with Sam & Symon. It was time for their pre wedding shoot, and we decided to go to Hornsea. Once again our British weather started very unsettled, but the sun was shining when we reached Hornsea.

Sam & Symon were already there waiting for us (Must be keen I thought :) ). We started off with some informal shots of the couple on the beach, both Sam and Symon were up for a little paddle and were soon getting wet in the sea.

Chivalry prevailed and Symon picked up his bride to be and carried her away from the incoming waves.

A quick change into some more relaxed/formal clothing and we strolled along the promenade. Both Sam & Symon were now very relaxed, and we were creating some wonderful images.

It was pointed out that I had been working them too hard, so we all retired to the local cafe for a welcome break. Alas the sun had brought out hundreds of little flying beetles, and they were everywhere, so we quickly had our break and moved on. I have never been to Hornsea (when visiting the famous pottery) and not had a fresh breeze blowing in, today was no exception, and Sam fought relentlessly to keep her hair in place.

We all had a great time and are now looking forward to the wedding later this year at Allerton Castle, I know that we are all going to have a wonderful day, creating beautiful images for Sam & Symon.

Thank you both for putting so much into your pre wedding shoot. I know you are going to love the results.

This is an area of photography that I normally do not touch. However as a photographer I am sometimes asked if I offer this service, as I do not have passing business I do not feel that it is a service that my clients want.  Nonetheless as a photographer I would not see someone struggle to get a passport image. A neighbour came to me recently with such a request, the need is for his granddaughter who is very ill and unable to get a conventional passport image. The hope is to take Millie on holiday. The family have struggled with this new law on Biometrics, to ensure that they comply with  the rules. This says that the child must not smile, must have their mouth closed and must be looking directly at the camera, no mean feat for a child with disabilities. Their problems are further compounded by so called photographers who offer a passport service, but are not willing to give a little extra, because there is no easy profit for them.

I am please to say that I had a wonderful time taking images of Millie, she is quite remarkable, with beautiful eyes, and a smile that melts your heart.

I am pleased to be able to give something to a little girl and her family that they never thought they would get, and they will have wonderful memories of this holiday together.

Wow, the start of a new life is always a wonderful thing. There is only one beautiful baby and every mother has one. Keira Lee is no exception. Sitting with three generations(Kiera being the Fourth). She stole the show. This shoot took place in Great grandma’s home which is a sheltered accommodation in South Elmsall. It was rewarding for me to go into her home and see all of her photographic memories displayed around the room, with a beautiful shot of her and her husband on their wedding day. She looked beautiful. She told us of her time in the forces, when she manned an anti aircraft gun on her own section of beach, having to line everything up in a Theodolite before firing. We owe so much to these brave people.

Great grandma looked so proud having her picture taken with the latest arrival, something I am sure she will treasure for ever.

Kiera Lee is only three weeks old, but everyone around knows when she needs her feed, but I am pleased to say she behaved impeccably for her first ever photo shoot. Thank You Kiera.

Wow, what a great day. Allerton castle was the the venue for this wonderful wedding. As Vivienne, Fiona & Zoe, made their way up to the bridal room, Duncan, Chris, Anna, Scott, Simon & Andy played snooker (not very well). There was a buzz of excitement in the air as everyone hurried along with final preparations.

Ann from Milan was soon on hand to help Vivienne into her dress, and add the finishing touches to the bow. Vivienne looked breathtaking, as she made haste, down the candle lit staircase at Allerton, with Zoe & Fiona trying to keep up.

Xantone Fayeton-Blacq and Charlie Hickman kept everyone entertained while the register was signed.

Everyone had a wonderful day and the evening got underway with Vivienne & Duncan inviting everyone onto the dance floor for the “Gay Gordons”  the live music was by Stair-Heid band a wonderful ceiliah band from Leeds. Later that evening Ferrensby Fireworks put on a beautiful display.

This was a wonderful but cold morning at the beautiful Valley gardens in Harrogate. Leaving behind a violent storm in South Yorkshire, it was reassuring to see the the sun shining in North Yorkshire, especially as Duncan had set off at 4 AM form the south of England, just for this shoot. Vivienne had company this week end, her two sisters, Zoe & Fiona, were up discussing the arrangements for the wedding in May. I was so pleased that they both came along to see what this pre wedding thing was all about, although I think it was little too early/cold for them and they made a brisk retreat into the cafe.

Viv and Duncan were naturals in front of the camera, even as we mixed among the local Ti Chi class, they both felt at ease. I know that they are going to have a wonderful wedding day, and a beautiful album of memories.
